Course Description
The aim of this course is to develop a holistic view on movement and activity to better understand the vocational pathways associated with Physical Education and Sport. Students can expect to participate in a variety of learning opportunities that will develop student competency around leadership qualities, coaching, managing, role modelling, relationship building, event management, risk management, physical performance and hauora within the context of activity.
If you are looking for a more practical based subject that will lead you to a career in and around sports then this is the course for you.
This course will create well-rounded individuals that will have a positive impact on the community of St. Patrick's College Silverstream.
Timetabled class time will be split between practical and theoretical learning tasks.

Special discretion by the HOD who will holistically consider the student's attendance, academic attainment to date and relevance to pathways.
Assessment
Assessments will be a range of practical work, and theory work, where students will be given the opportunity to submit work for assessment utilising a range of modes including practical demonstrations, video explanations, audiovisual presentations, and written reports.
There are a total of 18 NCEA level 2 credits available in this course, all from internal Achievement Standards.
A course endorsement will be available to students who attain Merit or Excellence grades for 14 or more credits.
Physical Education 2.7 - Analyse the application of risk management strategies to a challenging outdoor activity (3 credits)
Physical Education 2.3 - Demonstrate understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity (4 credits)
