Course Description
Students will work with industry to develop sound design practices.
Real Steel, a local Upper Hutt company and a world-class steel plate processing facility, will work collaboratively with St Patrick’s College Silverstream to ensure students develop the skills necessary for a highly developed, technologically advanced industry.
Real Steel have generously offered to work in partnership offering their design team and the use of their advanced technological machinery to execute quality industry applications.
Real Steel works at the cutting edge of technology with the most capable steel processing equipment including huge press brakes, massive laser and plasma cutter, power drilling and CNC machines.
Topics covered: Design and drawing skills • 3D digital modeling / Working with Real Steel on Industry based programmes • Students will learn to problem solve and to work independently to complete their own project. • Use of industry machinery to produce final product
Recommendation for subject entry
Preference will be given to students who have completed Year 10 Hard Materials (10HMT).
Assessment
Develop a Materials and Processing Technology Outcome for an authentic context (6 cr / Internal)
Develop a Materials and Processing Technology outcome by transforming, manipulating or combining different materials (6cr / Internal)
Demonstrate understanding of materials and techniques for a feasible Materials and Processing Technology outcome. (4 cr / External)
Discretion of the HOD is required if a student wants to do both HMT100 and DSM100. An individual Learning Plan will be written as the Achievement Standards offered are the same as in HMT100.
