DSM200: Level 2 Design Metal Work
Course Description
A Unit Standards course whereby students build a mini (two stroke) motorbike. The build takes all year. This course would complement the Design Mechanical Technology course as well as being a hands-on experience for students wishing to do mechanical engineering at university. This course does not continue through into Year 13 as we are guided by industry.
Topics covered:
Students will develop the basic skills required to operate within an engineering workshop learning how to machine their own parts on a metal lathe and milling machine. They will be instructed on at least three different types of welding processes, the use of power tools, hand tools, safety, and the assembly of mechanical components.
