10AEP: Year 10 Athlete Evolution Programme
The aim of this half year course is to develop the skills, knowledge, character and performance of young men through the context of sport to create a well rounded athlete. Students with an interest and proven aptitude for Rugby, Football, Basketball, or Cricket, can indicate their interest in being part of this programme for 2026 (students from outside of these main codes can indicate their interest but please keep in mind the codes offered are subject to student numbers and the availability or coaching expertise within the school community).
Students can expect to participate in a variety of learning opportunities, including: training methods, general physical skill development, sport specific skill development, tactics, decision making and game sense, mental skills and athletic values development. Students will have opportunities to further their understanding of what it takes to be a well rounded athlete and apply this learning to become an active member in sporting activities at St Patrick’s College Silverstream.
The overall goal of this programme is to create holistic athletes with the skills and character to contribute and succeed in a lifelong commitment with sports. Timetabled class time will be split between practical and theoretical learning tasks.
Topics covered: • Skill analysis and development • Physical conditioning • Creation of IDP • Athletic Identity • Personal character • Targeted coaching in their chosen sport
This is a half-year option course at Year 10.
Students will indicate their interest in this option on the portal when selecting their subjects. AEP is unique in that at this stage it only indicates your interest in being part of the programme as there is only a limited number of spots available.
Selections will occur after conversations with Mr Bowden and the PE staff have been had around attitudes, behaviour, sports teams and levels of success in year 9 Physical Education.
It is compulsory that any student involved in the Athlete Evolution Programme will also be representing the school in their specific sporting code in the 2024 season.
Assessment
Students will be assessed based on their growth and development over the course in a variety of areas including fitness, skill acquisition, character, development and implementation of their personal IDP.
Course contributions
$100.00 to $250.00 (depending on sporting code) towards the cost of external resources.
