Course Description
This course serves as an introduction to physical and human Geography. Students will explore the natural processes that create earthquakes, and earthquake risk in Wellington as part of a field trip. Students will be introduced to geographic research, and build valuable skills relating to the application of geographic data. Geographic issues and challenges in the Pacific region round out the course, with an exploration of contemporary case studies.

The distribution of earthquakes in New Zealand.
Exploring environments using data.
Geographic issues in the Pacific.
Assessment
There are two internal assessments, and one external assessment. Each is worth 5 credits, with 15 total credits on offer.

91932 Demonstrate understanding of the spatial distribution of a phenomenon and its impacts on place (5 credits)
91933 Explore an environment using data (5 credits)
External assessment (1)
91935 Demonstrate understanding of decision-making in response to a geographic challenge in the wider Pacific region (5 credits, end of year exam)
