10DGM: 10 Digital Music
Ableton Live is the DAW we have available to use at school. If you are considering taking Digital Music in the Senior School then it is recommended but not compulsory that you purchase your own copy which is available at an Educational discount; ask HOD Music for further details.
Course Outline
This is a computer-based class focused on the skills used for the creation, recreation and development of music rooted in theoretical knowledge gained through the practical application and analysis of music skills and styles. This course would be suited to those who are considering a career in Digital Media and Communication such as Game Software Development or Commercial Music.
Course Content: • Composition – using DAWS and Notation software ( if you have your own software that would be advantageous) • The music genres we will focus on will be music for Video Games • Aural – recreating music by listening to the layers of sound and working them out • Researching and analysing music to understand context influences • Basic keyboard skills to support aural, research, analysis and composition skills.
Recommendations for subject entry:
An interest in Music Technology and experience of DAWS is advantageous but not necessary.
Assessment
There are 3 assessments for this course which reflect the proposed course for Senior Digital Music:
