Course Description
This course builds on the Level 1 Commerce course by focusing on larger economic ideas and how they affect small businesses in New Zealand. Through the topics of Growth, Employment, Trade, and Government Policy, students will gain an understanding of New Zealand’s economy and its place in the world. Students will cover the overriding issues that face New Zealand as an open economy and use economic models to understand them.
Topics covered: Analyse international trade, economic growth, unemployment, inflation and government policies using economic concepts and models.
Recommendations for subject entry
10 credits in Level 1 Commerce. If Level 1 Commerce was not taken: 10 credits in Level 1 English and 10 credits in Level 1 Mathematics.
Assessment
Assessments will be a combination of one internal assessment in class and three external standards. 16 Credits will be available
2.1 - Analyse Inflation using economic concepts and models (External, 4 Credits)
2.2 - Analyse international trade using economic concepts and models (External, 4 Credits)
2.3 - Analyse Growth using economic concepts and models (External, 4 Credits)
2.4 - Analyse Unemployment using economic concepts and models (Internal, 4 Credits)
