Food and Nutrition is more than just cooking food. Most people in my class this year have taken for granted all of the information that our teacher supplied us with and some of them are just there for the food. But Food and Nutrition is more than what those boys in my class believe: It’s a life-long skill that you can take with you outside of school and beyond and a bonus is you can pass down to future generations. It’s about the four dimensions of Hauora and how Hauora affects our daily lives, this is a very topical topic. However we also study cooking practices, food literacy, attitudes, values and beliefs, analyse the real world and the problems currently happening that are mainly involving food, it's about sustainability and how we can help the environment by making meals out of whole foods and how to make that food go further. It's not just about our class’s food related habits, we look at our family’s, our community's, and our society's food habits. But yes, there is also at least some cooking involved, related to what we are currently studying”.
