PAC200: Level 2 Pacific Studies

Course Description
This course is intended to encourage and enable students to engage with and affirm traditional cultures and values. Students will investigate and draw conclusions of an aspect of Pacific and indigenous knowledge, society, change, and development. Students will also communicate understanding of a variety of Pacific cultures through planned presentations.
Non-Pacific students are also welcome to take this course. This course will also build on much of the learning taught in Pasifika Studies Level.1.
Students who are interested in learning any Pasifika language will have an opportunity to do NCEA Level 2 within this course. However, the student must show a level of proficiency in that language before they can be considered for these units. Students will also learn to communicate information, ideas, and opinions by responding to varied texts and varied sources of information. They will also manage self, relate to others, participate and contribute in communities by analysing ways Pasifika cultures are organised for different purposes and audiences.
Areas of investigation into the Pacific Islands include: art & design, traditional values, beliefs, cultivation, chief hierarchy systems, myths & legends, cultivation, traditional foods and dancing, voyaging, migration, performing arts, myths & legends, historical events, along with the analysis of Pasifika content in social media circles.

Recommendation for subject entry
Completion of Pasifika Studies Level 1. Fluency in any Pasifika Language. NCEA L1. A student who is already studying History and Geography.
