WTA200/300: Level 2 Wellington Trades Academy

Course Description
The student will be enrolled at College as well as the Wellington Trades Academy in programmes designed to support them to achieve NCEA Level 2, as well as a Vocational Pathways Award.
Trades Academy is a programme that is facilitated by Whitireia and Weltec Polytechnics. Students are bussed to Porirua for their learning, apart from those who need to go into the Wellington Cuba Street campus or Te Auaha in Dixon Street.
Students are usually out of school two days per week so are only enrolled in three subjects at school, one of which is Religious Studies. You will be expected to catch up on any work you miss in your other classes. Learning occurs at both NCEA Level 2 and 3.

Creative Technology

Courses offered at Level 3 include:
Barbering
Cookery
Animal Care
Health Science
Youth Development
You will need to complete an application form, ask a staff member to be your referee and attend an interview.
If you are interested you need to email Mrs Kurton to request an application form and ask a staff member, who will act as your referee. Usually, students who select this course will not be returning to Stream the following year. The student’s next learning step will be a full-time course at Whitireia/Weltec Polytechnics or the workforce.
Recommendations for subject entry.
This course is recommended for students who are self-directed, self-managing, and looking to become “work-ready”
Assessment
All units are internally assessed at a polytechnic. Each course offers between 45 - 55 credits at Level 2 and/or Level 3.
Next steps
It is recommended that students who take this course do not return to St Patrick's College Silverstream the following year. Instead it is suggested that students enroll at a Pre-Trade Course or seek an apprenticeship the following year.
