Year 10 Product Design

10TPD: Year 10 Product Design

Head of Department:

Ms Belinda Curran

Course Description

This course is based in the computer suite developing 3D modelling skills and rapid prototyping using the laser cutter.

Students will build an Infrared remote controlled “bot” using an arduino microcontroller, two servo motors and an infrared receiver. Students will learn basic coding and programming. Students will then take this knowledge to build a mechanised product using the same hardware. This will be of their own design and execution. They will need to be able to work independently and problem solve on their own.

Topics covered: Design and drawing skills  • Students will learn to problem solve and to work independently to complete their own project. • Circuits and soldering • 3D digital modeling • Preparing files for laser cutters. Some coding and programming.

Prerequisite

Students should have a majority of Relational / Extended Abstract grades to do well in this class.

Assessment

Students will make a small video presenting their ‘mechanised toy’.

Next steps

Level 1 Product Design /  Level 1 Design Metal Work.
