ART100: Level 1 Visual Art

Course Description 

ART100 is a varied course that sets students up with learning that incorporates many Visual Art making processes selected from: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Students learn important technical and conceptual skills for NCEA, which include visual research and planning skills, idea generation and creative thinking processes for their own art making. Individual proposals and development of a personal style are highly encouraged.

The art room is a place where imagination and personal culture are valued and resilience and a life-long love of art making are fostered.

We usually go on an art trip to a gallery during the year. This is an opportunity for boys to experience art in a gallery context which they can then relate back to their own work and creative process.

Prerequisite

Open to all students interested in making Art.  Students can choose Level 1 Visual Art OR Level 1 Design - not both.

Level 2 Art and/or Photography

Level 1 Art prepares students on the road to many varied creative career paths: Fine Arts, Commercial Art, Design, Photography, Animation and Film, Gallery and Museum Curator, Advertising, Architecture, Education and more. It also teaches students many transferable soft skills valued in the ever changing workplace.


Course contributions

Students are asked to contribute $38 towards the cost of a comprehensive art pack to be used in class. At the end of the rotation, students are free to keep remaining supplies.
