Course Description ENG200
At its core, English is about communication. It involves the creation and expression of ideas, as well as thinking critically about the purpose of different texts. By understanding how language works, students will be equipped to make appropriate language choices and apply them purposefully in a range of contexts for a specific audience. English also teaches key skills in critical thinking and analysis, so that students understand ‘how’ and ‘why’ language has the power to enrich and shape lives.

Assessment will include a combination of internal and external achievement standards in this 17 (or 21) credit course, and students will be able to gain UE Literacy:

Course Description LIT200
This is a practical English studies course consisting mainly of unit standards, with the opportunity for students to complete some Level 2 Achievement standards credits. It is designed for students who would find ENG200 academically challenging, or students who are undertaking the Gateway programme. Please note that LIT200 does not lead to Level 3 English.
Topics covered: • Using graphics in communication • Reading texts • Evaluate fake online information • Report writing • Speech • Close viewing of film

Students will also be placed into this course by staff based on their learning needs and achievement in Year 11 English.

All assessments are internal and include a mix of unit and achievement standards.
