DGM200- Level 2 Digital Music
Course Outline
This is a mixed-level class from Yr 11 - 13 focused on the skills used for the creation, recreation and development of music rooted in theoretical knowledge through the analysis of music skills and styles using Music Technology.
Course Content: • Composition – using DAWS and Notation software ( if you have your own software that would be advantageous) Led by student interest and looking to the Tertiary courses and Creative Industries such as Media and Film. • Aural – recreating music by listening to the layers of sound and working them out. Including rhythmic, harmonic and melodic dictation. •Researching and analysing music to understand context influences. •Basic keyboard skills to support aural, research, analysis and composition skills.
Recommendations for subject entry:
It is advantageous to have taken either Yr 10 Music or Level 1 Music, or have a portfolio of work on a DAW/ score writing software to show current level of understanding and skill.
For study at Level 2 or 3 instrumental lessons would be advantageous but are not compulsory.

Compulsory Standards
2.4 Compose two substantial pieces of music. ( Internal, 6 Credits)
US32302 Apply knowledge of MIDI sequencing (Internal, 3 Credits) and/or
US32303 Apply knowledge of a music notation application (Internal, 3 Credits)
Then choose 1 or 2 from this list to make up your full course.
2.6 Demonstrate knowledge of conventions in a range of music scores (External, 4 Credits)
2.7 Demonstrate understanding of two substantial contrasting music works (External, 6 Credits)
2.8 Devise an instrumentation for an ensemble. (Internal, 4 Credits)
2.9 Investigate an aspect of New Zealand music. (Internal, 4 Credits)
