DGM200- Level 2 Digital Music
Ableton Live is the DAW we have available to use at school. If you are considering taking Digital Music in the Senior School then it is recommended but not compulsory that you purchase your own copy which is available at an Educational discount; ask HOD Music for further details.
Course Outline
This is a mixed level class from Yr 11 - 13 focused on the skills used for the creation, recreation and development of music rooted in theoretical knowledge through the analysis of music skills and styles using Music Technology.
Level has compulsory standards including the Music Tech Unit Standards. The class will be a mix of whole class learning, Flipped Classroom (Self managed learning) alongside a more tutorial style of teaching to allow greater choice of student interest and choice of standards.
Composition – using DAWS and Notation software ( if you have your own software that would be advantageous) Led by student interest and looking to the Tertiary courses and Creative Industries such as Media and Film.
Aural – recreating music by listening to the layers of sound and working them out. Including rhythmic, harmonic and melodic dictation.
Researching and analysing music to understand context influences.
Basic keyboard skills to support aural, research, analysis and composition skills.
Recommendations for subject entry:
It is advantageous to have taken either Yr 10 Music course or have a portfolio of work on a DAW/ score writing software to show current level of understanding and skill.
For study at Level 2 or 3 instrumental lessons would be advantageous but are not compulsory.
