MAO300: Level 3 Te Reo Māori

Course Description
The Level 3 Te Reo course gives students the opportunity to use their Te Reo skills to explore complex, modern issues and prepares them for NCEA Level 3 and Scholarship. Te Reo Māori will be the dominant medium of instruction.
Topics covered: Haka/Waiata composed after 1900 • Kōrero ā-iwi/ Tribal stories • He take torangapu/A political/youth issue • He kaupapa whakaora i te reo/Language revitalisation strategy
Subject Recommendations
Students are required to have achieved 14 credits at Level 2 Te Reo Māori or equivalent
Assessment
For the internals students will be required to produce portfolios of their speaking and writing and will also have their ability to understand spoken Maori assessed. The external examination will focus solely on the written aspects of the course.
Course contributions
Students are asked to contribute $20 towards the cost of a marae visit.
