TM4T Techniques 5.1.1 - General Techniques: Problem Solving

In TM4T we tackle problems in a structured way:

Step 1: Analyse the Problem

Step 2: Consider Solution Options

Step 3: Choose Option and Design a Solution

Step 4: Put the Solution into Action

Step 5: Test the Problem is resolved.

We therefore apply this principle when we tackle our three kinds of work.

1. Our operations: at the start of the year,  we review how we intend to work and choose the best option for tackling standard tasks. For example, we decide on our classroom routines. We write down our solution, put it into action, and refine it if it doesn't work.

2. Our projects: as far as possible - unless a piece of work is very small - we do not simply do it We write it down. Then, in our XA role, we decide when and where to do it. Then, usually in our OA role, we do it, as far as possible in a standard way. We periodically review how effectively our XA and OA roles are in scheduling and carrying out tasks.

3. Our disruptions: well, disruptions are different. We don't analyse them or consider options, we just do what is needed. We do though, treat disruptions-in-general as a problem, and spend time actively looking for ways to remove them, or turn them into projects. In every situation, we seek to respond, rather than react.
