TM4T NQT - Software Downloads - Under Development

This is the TM4T starter software download page.

We need to begin with a health warning. Virtually none of the software on this page was developed by ourselves; it is all Web-sourced. Where possible, we have obtained licenses and permissions for use in UK secondary schools, but in the majority of cases, we haven't been able to contact the developers or license owners. This is true particularly for software downloaded from the now-defunct Teachers Resource Exchange.

We haven't always included individual case-statements regarding license provision and conditions of use - we assume you're too busy to worry about stuff like that. Just use the software based on the knowledge that we've taken reasonable care in its provision.

If you own any of this stuff, and you would like us to remove it, or add credits or whatever, please let us know and we'll oblige immediately.

We have used everything here ourselves, on bog-standard school networks, so it should work in your school. If in doubt, ask your friendly Network Support team. Please let us know if there are problems.

To Download Software.

Click on the Image at the end of each section below (the image will be of a PowerPoint slide headed 'Use'). This will open up a new window, showing a list of downloadable files.

How-you-download will depend on what browser you are using, but you will generally either find 'download' in the File dropdown menu, (top lefthand corner) or see a download arrow in the bottom right of the screen.

Download ALL files - each file individually -  and put them all into one folder on a memory stick (flash drive) that you can take to school. One of the files will be helpfully named 'Read Me', and contains fully instructions on how the software works and what to do. The 'Read Me' file is usually a PowerPoint file, but may be a txt file which is opened by the Notepad program which is in the Accessories section of most PC's Start menu. Ummm... I can't think of anything else that can go wrong, but if we've forgotten something, let us know...

To Use the Software in School

We realise that in UK secondary schools anything can go wrong, and usually does. We therefore recommend that you consult with your school's network support team, even though it is very unlikely that they will need to do anything. This will mean that if any annoying messages pop up, they get to deal with them, not you.

All the tools are ridiculously easy to use, mainly Web-based thin Client software which should  present no problems. However, in some instances two or three versions are provided (because school network set-ups vary) and your support team can offer advice on which to use.

Wordsearch

A simple to use Wordsearch game, which requires very little preparation, and can be used time and time again on any topic. You can prepare a Wordsearch to help with any set of vocabulary, and use simple screen-print and crop to create your own worksheets quickly and easily. In many situations, a quiz can be introduced as well as a Wordsearch, and there are facilities for differentiation and extension work.

Pupil Chooser

A devilishly clever, and fiendishly simple piece of software which picks one student from a list of student names; useful to choose, for example, which student tackles the next question, or which order in which students should perform, or who should help with the cleaning up this week...

You can use the selection button repeatedly - once chosen a student won't be chosen again till you click the reset button.

It doesn't sound particularly devilish or fiendish, does it? Well, the clever bit is that although it looks random, it isn't; not entirely. You can make it more likely - though not certain - which students will get chosen.

Hangman

Another old-skool favourite which is still bewilderingly popular with all ages. It comes with its own wordlist, but you can easily extend this to cover subject specific vocabulary. The game is space-themed, avoiding any connection with public executions.
