What should Schools do?
a) Accept that the levels of stress reported by teachers represent a management failure. This failure demands action.
b) Benchmark your performance in tackling stress not against other schools (who are almost universally poor) but against other industries; against the best in other industries.
c) Appoint a senior manager with responsibility for dealing with work-related stress, and allocate resources and accountability.
d) Demand and expect that your school monitors best practice and innovations across industry and takes action consistenly to address issues.
e) Manage this assertively. This means not just empathising with overworked staff, but implementing, tracking and measuring courses of corrective action.
