Here are the standard rules for teachers' meetings
1) Have a clear, standard agenda issued in good time
2) Choose carefullly who is invited and make sure they know why they're invited
3) Circulate any documents/material at least 24 hours in advance
4) Make sure the location is sensible and the right resources are available
5) State the purpose of the meeting clearly
6) Make sure everyone knows everyone else's name and role ie why they are at the meeting
7) Make sure everyone understands the ground rules (how the meeting will work)
8) Choose key roles (chair, minutes) sensibly in advance
9) Start on time, and discuss punctuality issues openly
10) Try to make sure everyone contributes, and always make sure everyone understands
11) Agree clear, brief action points with names and dates
12) Produce brief minutes quickly, with clear agreed actions and a sensible circulaton
13) Produce minutes appropriate to the readership. This usually means only key-points, decisions and actions need to be recorded.
14) Review agreed actions after each meeting, and at the start of next meeting
15) Always agree a time of next meeting, but cancel it well in advance if it isn't needed
16) End on time. Always
