Be careful of the following
- management of a Ticklist can grow to take up as much time as the tasks themselves. We will avoid this by keeping our lists very simple, and applying the two minute rule ruthlessly. For most teachers this means that Ticks-and-Twos should take no longer than 10 minutes a day.
- the process of prioritisation and the urge to procrastinate can result in some tasks never getting done at all. We will avoid this by insisting that we use our plans rigorously and that everything is dealt with within 48 hours (this doesn't mean that everything magically gets done within two days. It means that within 48 hours we have a clear, written down way ahead). Read more about procrastination here.
- listing routine tasks is time-consuming and repetitive. We will avoid this by planning the vast majority of our work well in advance, and by doing very small tasks straight away.
- if we become over-reliant on our little lists, then we cannot cope when things go wrong. We will avoid this issue by explicitly planning for disasters, and considering how to cope. We will also avoid any technology or specialist equipment. Folders and pens rarely breakdown.
- to do lists can become little tyrants which take over our lives. We will avoid this by keeping things simple and getting things done quickly..
