The Evening Primrose
The EP is a light sleeper, prone to lying awake and worrying about 10J's behaviour and what to say to Jasmine's mum. Tolerates the alarm clock. Rarely sleeps all night through. The EP teacher tends to view 'problems sleeping' as minor irritations, unless their life is going through a stressful period, when they suddenly realise how exhausted they are.
The EP periodically feels tired during the day, with peaks and troughs of energy and inertia. In the evening, though, the EP becomes more alive and more alert. May opt to do admin after school, into the evening if necessary.
The EP is shy, anxious, and cautious. Academically inclined and rigorous. Can be picky and a bit of a perfectionist. Amicable in school, but not sociable, avoiding both staff-room confrontations and casual friendships. Tends to moderation in most things, including food and drink... but (shock-horror) female EPs can also be flirty if not promiscuous outside school. [ we don't usually provide references in TM4T (you can use Google and Wikipedia as well as we can) but this tiny titbit about promiscuity routinely prompts so many queries that we'll make an exception ]
The EP is similar to the 'dolphin' mentioned in some texts.

The Morning Glory
The MG wakes at dawn, gets to school early, and works best in the morning. Frequently slumps a little after lunch – in fact after meals - and does not perform as well later in the day. Prefers not to take work home.
The MG rarely has difficulty in sleeping, and may not need a great deal of sleep. Sleep disruption, though, may take a little time to resolve.
The MG is enthusiastic, hard-working, level-headed. A goal-focused problem-solver with management potential. Likes team-based activity and adopts a healthy lifestyle, despite an equally healthy appetite.
The MG is similar to the 'lark' mentioned in some texts, and the 'lion' described in others.

The Sunflower
The S feels a little dopey in the morning but is a bundle of energy in the middle of the day. The S appreciates both an early night and a little lie-in, sleeping longer and more heavily than most.
The S is friendly, gregarious and happy; amiable and easy-going, but not very adventurous or ambitious. Enjoys food, drink and company.
The S is similar to the 'hummingbird' mentioned in some texts, and the 'bear' described in others.

The Night Jasmine
The NJ struggles to deal with mornings and relies on (but hates) alarm clocks. The NJ is at their most alert in late evening and is much happier to mark late at night than to get up early. During term-time the NJ struggles with sleep, but during vacations sleeps heavily and well (though may become partly nocturnal).
The NJ is moody, artistic, and emotional; creative, gregarious and risk-tolerant, impulsive - and compulsive regarding food and drink. Tends to resent schedules and pointless structure, and is comfortable with righteous staff-room confrontation.
The NJ is similar to the 'owl' mentioned in some texts, and the 'wolf' described in others.

The Sickly Hybrid
The SH has dramatic changes in mood and preference from week to week. Similarly, SH's energy levels and performance vary significantly over time, without any apparent physiological cause. Their eating habits are haphazard and variable, and they are prone to minor ailments and syndromes, especially headaches and digestive issues.
The SH may or may not know that they have a sleep problem, but often report anomalies – both negative (feeling exhausted in the morning despite a long sleep) or positive (feeling wide awake at night despite working long and hard). They may suspect that they have mental health issues. SHs may report exhaustion at night, but feel dopey in the morning too. They are often tired most of the day, and even long holidays don't seem to help mend things much.
