Communication is, of course, the basis for all successful teaching and all successful relationships and all successful administration. It is also one of the key causes of friction and key causes of stress in many organisations. Choose carefully what medium you choose:

- Face to face and one to one discussions

- Meetings

- Reports

- Letter or Memo

- E-mail

- Phone call

Very few of us are ‘good’ at all these things and even fewer of us have a realistic perspective on how good we actually are. Feedback on communication in school tends to be infrequent and rarely objective. So take heed of warnings: are you sending too many e-mails? A little harsh on the phone?
