About the site and myself

I am an AIX/Linux administrator from Hungary, focused on AIX, with some J2EE middleware administration experience.

This site was created to store useful information related to Unix system administration and my other personal interests, and to host my blog.

My skills

  • Certifications: "IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert IBM System p5 2006" - includes Test 222 (AIX), 062 (Virtualization), 182 (Enterprise Tech Support) and 237 (HACMP)
  • Strengths: Unix/AIX, Linux (SUSE Linux Enterprise), PowerVM, application server support
  • Scripting, upgrades, planning, security, performance tuning, migration
  • Storage/SAN administration (currently in the state of developing skills)
  • Virtualization with IBM Power Systems: HMC, DLPAR, VIO servers, design and maintenance
  • High availability: PowerHA (HACMP), GPFS
  • Hands-on experience with the enterprise and midrange IBM Power models (595, 570, 770, 740...) and older pSeries hardware
  • Practical knowledge of related skill areas (monitoring, networking, storage, security etc)
  • Deployment and administration of middleware running on AIX/Linux
  • Administration of WebSphere Application Server, Process Server and IBM HTTP Server, among others
  • JBoss, Orbix, EMC Documentum, portal software...
  • Support of development and application deployment lifecycle including debugging and organization
  • Use of various ticketing systems (ManageNow, Remedy, Peregrine, HP Service Manager...)

Other job related information

  • I am a certified English translator, I have translated several books into Hungarian
  • I speak some German as well (and Russian, but I forgot that almost entirely)
  • I have a driving license (with plenty of practice...)
  • I have years of Linux experience on both desktop and server, and I have used or administered open source BSDs and SunOS/Solaris as well
  • I'm an active member of the Unix community
  • I use openSUSE on my own home computers. It is also my distro of choice
  • I like sports, especially hiking, commuter/mountain biking and skiing
  • I don't smoke or drink
  • At the moment, I am committed to living and working in Budapest, Hungary and prefer not to drive a car on a daily basis
