Make Halloween Night A Night of Safety First & Fun for Everyone. "As a kid, there are some things you looked forward to. You looked forward to Charlie Brown during Halloween and you looked forward to Monday Night Football."---Nick Ferguson The Great Halloween tradition has been one of my favorite traditions from as far back as elementary school. As a matter of fact,I recall the Halloween decorations inside the classrooms, kids dressing up in their favorite costumes, the speciality foods, and the bags filled with all sorts of candy, the week before Halloween teachers and students would convey and aver their plans for the day. Often students would state as the day grew nearer how they couldnt wait for the day to arrive. At home, after school ended ,I enjoyed evening television shows and cartoons that put the Great Halloween tradition on a pedestal. And even after Halloween concluded,I recall as a pre teen and teen,I continued to watch spooky cartoons and movies.Today, the Great Halloween tradition remains one of my favorite American traditons. From the costumes,to the trick or treating ,to the late night parties, the Great Halloween tradition remains a favorite among both the young the old. Frequently,I've stated Im big on tradition, especially those from my childhood. And at the same time,I ve attributed American tradition to being a sustaining and a vital element behind American families. Of all the various traditions American families recognize and honor, the Great Halloween tradition throughout the years has received a bad reputation because it has been frequently associated to the emphasis of abnormal behavior, deviant personalities, and the grotesque. The tradition itself for decades has been synonymous with Evil . While the day, after decades of recognition continues to focus on evil, the dead, horror, and the overly grotesque, the day,__ however ,for a tantamount of Americans has been a day that allows youth to use their imagination and creativity. In fact, the Great Halloween tradition for a tantamount of consumers and shoppers has been a great way to meet new people, sample different foods,it has been a great way for consumers and shoppers to get to know their neighbors, as well as be a part of the community, and in some instances many discover a whole new genre of film. Although, in years past ,the day has been synonymous with Evil, much of the Halloween's persona has changed throughout years. For a myriad of consumers and shoppers, the day takes on different meaning often associated with wicked humor and frightening fun. Over the years,Halloween, the day has become more commercial and a big media blitz for retailers as well as advertisers.Normally, during this time of year,I like to plan for the Great Halloween tradition in a variety ways. Recently,I re submerged myself in the Halloween tradition. Within the past three years,I began comparing prices of Halloween items specifcally costumes, bulk candy and party decorations to prepare for a low cost Halloween event at my place residency. Because Halloween remains a commercial event, there's numerous ways that consumers and shoppers could recognize the day. Unlike, the years that I recognized the Great Halloween tradition as a student with costumes, going out with family and friends to trick or treat, passing out candy to neighbor kids and attending Halloween parties late in the evening, these days,at forty-something,Ive taken a more at home approach. Instead of trick or treating,Ive put away my bright orange and black pumpkin, traded in my orange and black trick or treating bag,the one I used when the pumpkin head became to full for bat shaped brownies, rice crisp treaties, cinnabon popcorn, and late night horror movies compliments of Crackle and NetFlix. Eventhough,Ive put away my pumpkin head that doesnt mean I dont know or understand the importance of kid safety on Halloween. As a kid I often left the safety issues up to the supervising adults,I often waited to hear the safety rules and the night itinerary. Straightforwardly speaking,I recognized and celebrated Halloween the entire twelve years of my public school education,as a result,I feel that I am pretty well versed on Halloween safety especially as it relates to kids. First and foremost, Safety First should always be implemented in relation to any outdoor activity or late evening event. With a few safety tips and rules, teachers and parents you have the authority to set the mood and to make Halloween night a safe and fun night for everyone. Briefly,I list below in outlined format a few of the safety tips I practiced as a kid on Halloween. Safety Tips I. Halloween costumes are offered in a variety of sizes and themes. The most important safety tips parents, teens and buyers should consider when purchasing a Halloween costume are two immediate visible design construction, fit and outward pattern. A. In reference to kid's Halloween costumes, each Halloween costume should fit to size comfortably, the Halloween costume shouldn't be too big or too small. B. After choosing the correct size, parents, teens, and buyers should immediately check the costume for loose objects, strings, detachable items or anything that could get caught in an elevator, door or window before purchasing the costume. II. Assorted candy, one of the biggest items handed out and served at most Halloween events,it's also the most dangerous.Safety tips in reference to assorted candy include close scrutiny, types of acceptable candy, and preventing heath risk. A. All candy should be closely scrutinzed before given to small children. B. Teachers and Parents should inform kids the acceptable types of candy theyre allowed to accept if they plan to trick or treat. Typically, individual wrapped candy remains the most acceptable Halloween candy. C. An very important safety tip for teacher, parents, and students all assorted candy should not be eaten until it has been inspected by an adult preferable at the students home once the trick or treating has been completed. III. Door to Door,it might sound archaic but some consumers and shoppers continue to keep with the Halloween tradition including door to door trick or treating. As a matter of fact, door to door trick or treating has been a part of the Halloween tradition for many years. I performed door to door trick or treating as a pre teen and teen. Safety tips for door to door trick or treating shouldnt be taken lightly,it includes who, what, when,&where to trick or treat. A. First, teachers and parents should inform students who plan to perform door to door trick or treating that should do so with a group of fellow students. Teachers and Parents should also inform students it's more safe to trick or treat in their own neighbor or the community where they reside. B. Teachers and Parents should choose a specific time to trick or treat and insist students and kids adhere to the times. C. An extremely important safety tip in reference to door to door trick or treating includes informing students and kids to not go inside homes during the specified times even if they the adult this is an very important safety. Furthermore, teachers and parents should also emphasize to all students to report suspicious behavior. IV. Horror Films, they're just as much a part of Halloween tradition as dressing up in costumes, and ,trick or treating. Available online,in stores ,at retail outlets, and featured in movie theaters during the month of Halloween,Horror films are often in full demand during the Halloween tradition. In reference to Horror films two elements should be considered when selecting a Horror film and before showing a Horror film to kids and students. First ,age appropriateness ;next, the severity of the content within the Horrot film. A. An important safety tip,age appropriateness should be consider first when selecting a Horror film to show to pre teens and teens. B. Secondly,content__the content of a Horror film is very important,if it is too grotesque and horrific for you, then it's probably too grotesque and horrific to show to a pre teen or teen. V. For many years,Halloween has drawn large crowds with the advertising and marketing of its novelty items and specialty candies. Unequivocally, assorted candy has been one of the biggest items served over the years during Halloween. Not surprisngly, throughout the years, the day has received a bad rep because of the sugary sweets. As a result,as the tradition progress and became more commercial, teachers and parents began to consider alternatives to the sugary sweets. Typically,in previous years, individually wrapped candy has been the most acceptable kind of Halloween candy. Eventhough, most individually wrapped candy handed out during Halloween isnt always the most healthiest,it's often considered the saftest. Make no qualms about it, Fun and Healthy Snacks more specifically Halloween treats come in all sizes and varieties. A.Teachers and Parents looking to serve Fun and Healthy snacks during Halloween might want to try the following. A •Granola Bars •Brownies(Little Debbie Snacks) •Gummy candies (gummy worms, gummy bears, and gummy life savers) •Muffins •Pre package Trail Mix • Craisin •Chocolate covered yogurt and raisins.
