Five years ago, the American economy entered into a recession. Unexpectedly, the recession caused businesses to collapse at the same time it also caused millions of Americans to lose their jobs and homes. Compared to the Great Depression of the 1930's, the economic recession in 2008 deeply impacted American consumers and shoppers all across the United States. Since the recession, America’s road to recovery has been slow. As of today, millions of Americans remain out of work, a recent report from the BLS reported that 146,000 jobs had been created in November of 2012, yet 12 million people remained unemployed. Without a question, economic growth and job creation remains a number one concern among retailers, consumers, and shoppers. Weeks after re electing the first Afro American president for a second term, American consumers and shoppers remain on edge. Presently, on the eve of the State of the Union Address American consumers and shoppers continue to face the uncertainty of consumerism in the United States. Because of slow job growth and declining sales at some of America's major retail stores, the fate of American consumer and shoppers remain in limbo.Sadly, as the economy struggles to regain full speed, a few of America’s well known retailer have opted to close stores due to poor sales. Slow job growth, high unemployment, and major retailers closing stores across the United States, the fate of American consumers and shoppers is unclear. Immigration, Gun control, LBGT marriages, National deficit, and Unemployment each of these conditions both governmental and social affect consumerism in the United States.

As a citizen, a voter, a consumer and a shopper__, I want to take this moment to ask you, on February 12th, will you be watching the State of the Union Address?

Sincerely,
