He rose out of poverty,despair,unequality,and economic hardship. He led a movement that would change the lives of millions of Afro-American. He fought for the poor,equality,education,and racial desegragation. He organized nonviolent protest against racial injustice towards Afro-Americans__and,he left behind a legacy that no history book could keep bound. Martin Luther King Jr.,minister,orator,author,activist,and Nobel Prize recipient,the works of Martin Luther King Jr. continue to be an example of powerful positive nonviolent protest. Decades __, after he delivered his first speech, the "I Have a Dream" speech remains one of Martin Luther King Jr. most widely known speeches among students. Aside from his speeches,Martin Luther King Jr. wrote several letters. Of the recorded letters he wrote, the "Letter from the Birmingham Jail" written during his confinement in the Birmingham jail also continues to be one of his most widely known works. In total,it has been report that Martin Luther King wrote a total of 450 combined of speeches and letters. In a moment of truth and retrospection,at a very young age,I learned about the works of Martin Luther King Jr,at the same time I had been taught the significant importance of the Civil Rights Movement.Normally , around this time of the year( January),I pause for moments and sometimes for days to reflect upon the life of a man who fought for the equality of all men. And it always occurs,the remembrance of a young baptist minister who dedicated his life to Civil Rights___,then way leads unto way,as MLK Day nears,and I begin to recall sitting in a fifth grade class watching the Martin Luther King Jr. documentary.Enacted in,shortly after his death,Martin Luther King Day became a national and historical observance. Each year Afro-Americans and Americans from all walks of life come together to celebrate,to honor,and to pay tribute to a man who took up a cross and lead with such passion and zeal that others couldn't help but to follow__,to celebrate,to honor,and to pay tribute to a man who defied all institutional convention and method,to celebrate,to honor,and to pay tribute to a man who put aside a four hundred year slavery mentality,to celebrate,to honor and to pay tribute to a man who gave up fame and fortune to address the social conditions of the many,Martin Luther King Jr.As an elemenary student,I might not of fully understand the direct impact of Martin Luther King Jr. works__,I just knew he had performed a great works for others. As I matured during my teens it became very apparent the direct impact Martin Luther King Jr works had on my life and on those of all Afro-Americans. Even today, at forty-something,I continue to feel the impact of his works__and to be honest it isnt those uncomfortable,sad feelings I felt the first time I saw the Martin Luther King Jr. documentary sitting in my fifth grade class. Instead, it's the feeling of deference,tolerance,regard,appreciation,esteem,humility,gentleness,kindness,and thoughtulness. And perhaps, even moreso,today, from within the truth extends outwards. As a black woman, a multicultural black female,it's a symbol of acceptance__,a moment of truth__,to be able to stand with women of all different colors,from all different backgrounds,and to feel comfortable,honored,respected,valued and accepted through trial,adversity and unequality *from where it most matters from within.On this 21st day in January 2014,I celebrate,I honor,and pay tribute to a man,a man of faith,a man vision,a man of resolution, one man ,one spirit, and one belief that changed the course of the future.
