From the desk of the Editor;

Residents living in Virginia and the Hampton Roads will continue to have access to Public Notice through their local newspapers. In fact ,numerous bills have been passed and put to the Senate Committee on Local Government within the past four year;however, I gained an interest in the bill to remove Public Notice from newspaper towards mid year of 2013 as an individual member of the Virginia Press Association. While preparing for National Newspaper week,it was brought to my attention that a bill had been formed to remove Public Notices from newspapers. Actually, at the time two bills had been forming SB 472 and HB 95,as result of the announcement I posted on our corporate site and inside the csaccac eNewsletter a poll pertaining to Public Notices. And to be truthful, at the moment I read the announcement, I immediately opposed the bill to remove Public Notices from local newspaper, at the same time ,I knew that it was important that I inform readers and members of this pending bill. Today,I'm happy to report,in the month of February,as reported by the Virginia Press Association ,the Senate bill SB 472 to mandate local newspapers the choice of advertising on websites,radio,and television the Senate dismantled the bill. I'd like to thank each and every one of our members,supporters,sponsors,visitors,and contributors who responded and voice their disconsolation towards both bills SB472 & HB95. Virginia residents have the right to know what's going on in our local government stop the secrecy and keep the light on Public Notices.

Sincerely,

Jamala M Johnson
