From the desk of the Editor;

As the month of March and National Women's History Month reaches an end, I didn't want to forget or leave out one of my favorite role models, and an American icon,Barbie. March,1959,Mattel an American Toy company introduced to the public a fashion doll called Barbie. An American cultural icon,Barbie has attracted millions of fans and followers from around the world. Sold in over 150 countries,Barbie, whose full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, has inspired,motivated, and encouraged young girls of all ages to pursue their dreams. Throughout her life span,Barbie has evolved along with Women's Rights. Unequivocally,the various occupations the statuesque doll has represented and fashioned is proof of how far Women's Rights has progressed.Since her first introduction to the public in 1959 at ,Barbie has represented over 130 careers. From an astronaut,to a veterinarian,to a pilot to an aerobics instructor, to a lifeguard, and even a Presidential candidate,her influence has spanned over decades. Frequently,Barbie finds herself at the center of controversy. In most instances,it is her looks and statuesque frame that often gets her the most attention. Although a tantamount of consumers and shoppers tend to argue,Barbie isn't an ideal body type. In fact some consumers and shoppers feel the doll promotes eating disorders. Whether you agree or disagree with her appearance,Barbie has had a significant impact on the way young girls see the world,the careers they choose, and the kind of hairstyles they choose to wear. Her message has been universal. Challenging, young girls to dream,to achieve and to be a success,decades later, a role model to many young girls across the globe,Barbie continues to be an American cultural icon.
