For almost six decades,Mattel's Barbie has touched the hearts of little girls, and has even caused controversy. Over the years Barbie has had a lot of competition, from the Bratz dolls to the Polly Pocket dolls,Barbie has held her ground. Quite remarkably,at fifty plus Barbie remains a favorite among both the young and the old. At forty-something,I still love Barbie. And in all honesty ,I have been a fan of Barbie from the first Barbie commercial I viewed on a Saturday morning while watching cartoons in my grandmothers livingroom.Years later, after the first Barbie that I ever played with as a pre teen,I still hear that small inner voice telling me "you're never too old for Barbie" and there have even been days when Ive actually averred the words to family, friends,co workers and strangers. Since her first introduction to the public ,Barbie has become a culture icon and a pioneer in women's history. For this reason, during the month of National Women's History,I like to recognize Mattel's Barbie because of her resilence, her ability to adapt to various demands of little girls across the globe, her life's theme that is implied through the many different occupations her figure has fashioned. Throughout the years the symbolic beauty has had numerous mantras, however, the one that spoke to me and stood out from the rest implied that "girls can do anything if they just put their minds too it". Most importantly,I admire Mattel's Barbie for her willingness to include women from different cultures and color as well as her continued efforts to further women's right at home,in the workplace and in the classroom through her various fashion and style. To conclude, let's not forget the many strides, roles, and contributions that Mattel's Barbie has set forth to inspire and motivate little girls across the globe.
