Introduction:

My first GPS enabled wing. I increased the wingspan from ~500mm to 600mm to provide more stability for these larger motors.

Components:

  • Dollar tree foam board

  • Battery strap

  • King Kong 2204 2300kv with gemfan 51466 props

  • Furibee 30a ESC

  • Teeny 1s FC powered by a 5v regulator

  • Frsky XM+

  • 2x SG90 9g servos powered by a 2nd 5v regulator

  • Beitian 220 GPS

Conclusion:

The dry weight came out to 146g. With a 3s 850, it came to 220g and with a 4s 850, it came to 240g. It has fpv hookups to allow for troubleshooting on the ground, but no fpv gear is attached during flight since this is intended to be a LOS chase wing. On 3s, it has more than ample power and on 4s, it can really pick up some speed on dives. The increase in wingspan proved to be a good choice as it was stable in flight with no bad tendencies. Unfortunately, the new batch of servos do not always center as accurately as the previous ones, so flying acro is preferred since the FC always positions the servos correctly. GPS also works, but is not as precise as I would like. Loiter mode is sometimes off by quite a bit so it can only be trusted in more remote locations that are not in the proximity of streets with traffic. This is quite a disappointment, but since this one is proving to be so much fun to fly, I am planning on a FPV version next.

Update 8/19/20 - This got destroyed after multiple crashes with the last one straight into concrete at full speed. The previous ones were straight into dirt and it survived quite a few of them. The concrete took out a lipo as well. In the end, it kept crashing on hard maneuvers because the flight controller failed to respond to stick inputs. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I'm going to keep moving on to larger motors for now to test the limits.
