w3635kfc

Introduction:

This is my first 500mm wing with a flight controller. The idea was to start using up my half broken flight controllers from quad projects.

Components:

  • Dollar tree foam board

  • Turnigy Plush 2-4s 10a esc with 5v2a BEC

  • Frsky D8 XM+ receiver

  • 2x Hextronic hxt500 servos powered by a separate 2a bec

  • TeenyF4 pro FC with betaflight (lifted OSD pad)

  • Racerstar BR1306 3500kv with 4x4.5 propeller

Conclusion:

This came in at 93g dry. The esc bec powers the FC & receiver while a separate bec powers the servos. The hardest part was figuring out the smix in betaflight as there is no documentation on it. The smix itself wasn't hard, but figuring out that the only way to enable your smix was to use a custom airplane mix took me a whole day. I kept it in a wing mode which used a custom smix which you cannot overwrite. There was also no error stating that it wasn't using your smix either. A pretty frustrating issue after which everything came together quickly after. I also didn't use inav initially because the inav configurator would hang during the firmware update process. Someone else later pointed out to me that I could use the betaflight configurator to load a inav hex onto which worked perfectly. I'll try to learn inav on the next wing.

Update 4/30/20 - First flights were successful, but elevons can sometimes twitch like crazy. Reduced the P gains quite a bit and it helped. Will need more tuning sessions to figure out the best settings.

Update 5/20/20 - updated it to a xm+ receiver since the D8 receiver range was more limited

Update 10/16/20 - I don't fly this anymore, so I took it apart to build a short range inav cruiser wing w3635-inav
