vx110

Introduction

After a series of component failures on the atomic cricket, I decided to use the guts to build something else instead. The 2" atom frame was better suited for 1103 motors to get better efficiency. 1104s are very efficient running 2.5" props.

Components :

  • vx110 frame
  • Eaglepower SA1104 7000kv 2-3s motors
  • Omnibus F3 FC with a 4in1 20a esc
  • Frsky xm+ receiver
  • VTX03
  • Foxeer micro CCD camera
  • Gemfan 2540 props
  • Velcro battery strap, nylon screws/standoffs, nylon cable ties

Conclusion:

The only challenge in building this was figuring a way to mount the camera. I originally wanted to go with escs on the arms so that I can put only the FC in the body and have room to squeeze the camera further back. In the end, I decided to reuse the guts from cricket since it was available. There are various 3d printed parts on thingiverse, but none of them would fit with the double stack. There is only a few mm of clearance between the camera and front props. In a bad crash, this could definitely be an issue.

The dry weight came to 68grams and it's the lightest craft I have sporting 2.5" props. This motor/prop combination with gnb 450mah 2s gave almost 5 mins of flight time during the initial maiden test flight doing some light cruising. This thing is super quiet as well. Due to the power, it is not easy to fly indoors.
