Introduction:

I want to build a sub 250 lightweight short range cruiser. It's not built as tough as my LOS wings which can survive nose first crashes from a hundred feet high, but weight reduction is necessary to reach weight targets.

Components:

  • Dollar tree Foam board

  • 2x 3.7g servos

  • Racerstar 1306 3500kv motor with 4x4.5 propeller

  • Turnigy Plush 2-4s 10a esc with 5v2a BEC

  • Frsky xm+ receiver Radiomaster R81

  • Fullspeed F3 omnibus flight controller

  • 5v BEC

  • Beitian 180 GPS

  • Eachine VTX-03 25/200mw

  • Micro swift clone camera

Conclusion:

110g dry. I used a lot of old quad parts for this. I was trying to keep it 100g, but it came out a bit heavier.

It maidened perfectly on full manual mode. A single 2s 550 was not enough weight to balance the CG, so I had to up it to a 3s. Unfortunately, autotrim did not work well. I'm not sure if there's an issue with the flight controller or perhaps the F3 wasn't enough. Since I wasn't happy with the motor, I'm going to build another with a 1407 and a F4 flight controller next before deciding on what to do with this one.

Update 12/21/20: I flew this today in the snow and had the vtx change channels on me towards the end of the flight. I was pretty low, but quickly switched to RTH mode. I thought it had crashed for sure and was getting ready to look for it when I heard a wing buzz overhead. Sure enough, RTH worked like a charm and I was able to easily land it LOS.
