mini drak

Introduction:

The mini drak is no longer in production at this time, so the only way to get one is to get it used. Neon lime was never my favorite color, but it is easy to spot in the air.

Components:

  • Mini Drak

  • Matek F405 Wing FC

  • Cobra 80 amp (6s) esc

  • Cobra 2814/10 1700kv motor

  • Hitech 5245 MG servos

  • TBS Crossfire RX

  • VAS Crossfire Antenna

  • TBS Unify pro VTX

  • Beitian BN220T GPS

  • Runcam Micro Eagle

Conclusion:

1230g dry. This is my heaviest plane so far. I laminated it and refinished it to my own standards. This literally weighs twice as much as the nano drak, so I was a little bit shocked. The next step is to build some li-ion batteries before it can fly.

Update 11/2/21: I was only able to fly it once as the prop broke on the second launch attempt. I'm not used to planes with lower power to weight ratios. I will need to max out the launch throttle and try again. It did fly well while it was in the air. Very smooth and stable, but no speed demon. I think cruise throttle was around 40%.

Update 11/4/21: Was not able to get it to launch at all and broke my last 7x6 prop. Need to solder on bullets so I can use reverse props instead.

Update 12/4/21: So I figured out the autolaunch settings. It requires full throttle and a really good overhead throw (preferrably with a bit of wind). I would not fly this on a calm day as smaller wings are more fun to fly. However, this one really shines on windier days. It's not my favorite by far, but it definitely has its place. I will need to fly it a lot more to see how my opinion changes.

Update 12/12/21: I removed the dead weight from the nose and flew it with 3 4s 1500 lipos in parallel. It balanced perfectly and still launched fine.

Efficiency Logs:

  • 20km (3120mah used) | 4s 1500mah lipo x3 | 156mah/km - regular flying not trying to be efficient
