Introduction:

I had some spare Beta75 frames that I wanted to use, but didn't want to use them with the 0x0x motors. The 110x motors are so much more durable without too much weight penalty added, so I wanted to give them a shot. The only drawback was the motor holes in the frame doesn't support them.

Components:

  • Beta75 Pro Micro Brushless Whoop Frame for 0703
  • frsky micro D8 receiver
  • Super S F4 FC + 4 in 1 ESC
  • racerstar BR1103 6500kv motors x4
  • King Kong 41mm props
  • LST S2 AIO camera/vtx

Conclusion:

Modifying the frame required drilling out the first hole and then melting the second with a soldering iron for more accuracy. The FC was soft mounted to the bottom of the frame with double sided foam tape. I also cut some foam to mount the camera. After all was said and done, the quad came out to 32 grams.

In flight, there was a noticeable amount of drift in acro mode. I think I may have to go back and try hot glueing the FC onto the frame instead of using the foam tape. This is the biggest drawback of the quad right now as as acro flights still require a lot of input correction. Fortunately, it still flies great due to the low weight. Ideally, I would have put the flexrc 1102 12500kv motors onto this if I had spares as I do not believe the 6500kv motors are an efficient choice for this size platform. However, with GNB 450mahs, I still get over 3 mins flight time. It feels very light and nimble even with the 450s. Overall, this is a very fun quad and is in my top 3 even with all the flaws.

Update 6/24/18: I modified the FC mount and hot glued it instead to the frame instead of the foam tape. It reduced the drift and after inputting some trim using stick commands, it now flies pretty straight and smooth. It flies for 3 mins on 350mah zippys and 5 mins on 450mah GNBs both coming down at 3.8v (which means they can fly for quite a bit longer if you want them to come down at a lower voltage). This is now my favorite quad.

Update 7/23/18: Swapped out the props for some 41mm 4 bladed ones. Slight dip in flight times, but I just didn't like the overall feel of it. I actually prefer the "looser" feel of the 3 blade props for whatever reason, so I switched back.

Update 10/3/18: The durability of the frame remains simply amazing. I've crashed it so many times and I've even snapped the wire in the silicone leads during a crash and the frame doesn't even have a crack in it. It definitely looks like its been through a war, but no issues with durability at all. Simply amazing.
