Introduction:

Redoing the previous build after it got destroyed. The wing shape is exactly the same, but the design of the individual pieces were different to make future builds easier (easier folds on the wings).

Components:

  • Dollar tree foam board

  • 2x 9g servos

  • SZ speed 1407 4000kv motors with 5030 prop

  • Beitian 180 GPS

  • Frsky xm+ receiver

  • 5v regulator only for servos

  • FX799T 200mw vtx

  • Favorite Bee 30A ESC

  • Foxeer micro arrow camera

  • Fullspeed F3 omnibus flight controller (taken from SPC90S)

  • Battery strap

Conclusion:

145g dry. With a battery, it'll come pretty close to 250g.

Update 10/31/20: The maiden was a mixed bag. It flies perfectly in manual mode, but was acting strange when doing hard maneuvers in acro mode. It was not responsive to stick responses at certain times and it felt like the FC was acting up. I'm not sure what's wrong, but I'll need to give it another go next time. It also took me over an hour to find it in the grass and snow after it crashed. Fortunately, due to the cold, the VTX didn't burn out like last time. I would have found it sooner if I the fatshark dvr UI was better. One mistake in the joystick and you have to play the video over again. The buttons just don't make sense. After I found it, when I tried to fly it again, the video went blank. It turns out the ground wire for the VTX came off from the crash.

Update 11/4/20: The new tuning flights didn't go well. It wobbles as during flight as if I copied and pasted some inappropriate configuration in it. Not so bad that it's unflyable, but enough so that I cannot trust it. I am going to redo the configuration from scratch.

Update 11/8/20: I tried manually tuning this to remove the oscillation. I tried individually lowering the P,I, and FF values and then altogether to no avail. Either the motor is noisier than I though or there is an issue with the FC gyro. As of now, it flies, but not something I would rely on (esp on a windy day).

Update 11/21/20: Tried the gemfan hurricane 4023 props on this today and they were a lot more efficient than the other ones. I think this is a better combo for sure since it still provides enough thrust. Unfortunately, I lost control due to a stall towards the end of the flight which resulted in a hard crash that destroyed the nose. I'll need to test this again on a not so windy day.

Update 12/4/20: Turns out the last crash did it in. A lot of wires severed on the FC. Retiring this one.
