The Tick

Size comparison with the Locust

Size comparison with a Blade nano qx

Introduction:

Continuing down the line of insect themed quads is the tick...quite possibly the smallest brushless quad that you can make at the moment.

Components :

  • pepperF1SH X70 frame
  • Racerstar 0703 20000kv motors
  • pepperF1SH FC+esc stack (w/ built in frsky receiver)
  • LST S2 micro cam w/ vtx
  • JJRC H36 props
  • nylon screws/standoffs, rubber bands

Conclusion:

I actually bought this quad half built. The pepperF1SH FC isn't sold in many places and can be hard to find at times. This thing really is tiny and easily fits in your pocket (if you don't have worries about crushing it. ^_^). Rubber bands were used to keep the weight down and the blue piece of foam on top is to act as an impact cushioning agent on crashes for the micro camera. It flies ok for the size, and gets about 2mins on a old 300mah 1s battery. A higher quality one w/o sag will definitely yield much better results.

At 19 grams, it's really about as light as it can get. I originally had 3d printed some prop guards for it, but it would've added 6 grams to the total weight, so I decided to forgo it at the moment.

Update 5/10/18:

So I never even flew this thing after the initial test. The motors look really delicate and I think it can be a lot more efficient with bigger props. Honestly, it desperately needs prop guards. I'm gonna switch this to a frame with better prop protection.
