Flexo

Introduction:

After making bender, I was curious as to how 1103s would perform vs 0703s. Thus Flexo was born. All components are identical to bender except for the motors.

Components:

  • Beta75 Pro Micro Brushless Whoop Frame for 0703
  • frsky micro D8 receiver
  • Super S F4 FC + 4 in 1 ESC
  • Boldclash 0703 10000kv x4
  • King Kong 41mm props
  • LST S2 AIO camera/vtx

Conclusion:

The assembly was easier than the first since the challenges with figuring out how to mount the fc/esc were already overcome. While bender came in at 32 grams, this one came in at a light 27grams. There would be even more weight savings if they released a 2s AIO board with escs/fc for micros. As usual, there is full osd/ turtle mode.

There are definitely pros and cons to bender vs flexo. Performance wise, Flexo is more sprightly and feels a bit nicer. This is not to say bender is bad, but they just feel different. At the end of the flight, the 0703 motors are definitely warmer while the 1103s are cool to the touch. Battery wise, the 1103s offer almost a full minute of longer flight time even though the quad is that much heavier. This really speaks to the importance of choice in motors with respect to efficiency and kvs. Lastly, becuase the 0703s are a bit smaller, the props are better protected in the smaller frame. Unfortunately, they both suffer from the exact same drift issues.

Update: 7/11/18

Flew it on a Nanotech 300mah 2s today and got around 2.5 mins flight time. It feels like its on steroids for the first 30 seconds while the voltage is still high. I was also able to fly it on a zippy 350mah 2s as well and it was also amazingly light, but still yielded over 3 mins of flight time. Also broke my first prop on it today. My main concern is how long these motors will last.
