ng2423

Introduction:

A modified plank based on the nano goblin. 580mm wing.

Components:

  • Foam board (with foam pipe insulation for fuselage)

  • 2x sg90 servos

  • GWS 15a 4s ESC Arris 20amp 4s ESC

  • SZ Speed 1407 4000kv Arris 2204 2300kv motor

  • DSM receiver

Conclusion:

157g dry.

Update 12/11/20: The initial Gemfan 4023s I put on there did not have enough thrust on 3s, so it was only able to glide across a baseball field at almost full throttle.

Update 12/12/20: I swapped to the Emax 4" prop which still didn't put out enough thrust so I had to use the 5". I did manage to get it to fly briefly on 3s using that combo to find the proper CG before the esc gave out since it doesn't support 4000kv on 3s. It cuts out near the top of the throttle, so I estimate that it probably has a max of 10000. I swapped out the motor to an Arris 2204 2300kv with an Arris 20amp esc and will test again. It now weighs in at 165g.

Update 12/13/20: Attempted to fly this again with the upgraded motor. Wind forecast was 13mph, but as I was flying, my hat blew off, so I knew it was over 20mph winds. It flew on both 2s and 3s, but it really wasn't a pleasant experience. I added a fpv camera, but will need to try that on a calmer day. I also reduced the throws for roll down by 10%.

Update 12/20/20: I finally got to fly this on a day with little wind. It flew really well. Even fpv without a FC was great. Unfortunately, the fpv camera I was using switched channels mid flight and I lost signal. I'm not sure if it was because it got wet in the snow due to a rough landing in a prior flight.

Update 12/21/20: I got it tuned for fpv flight today after replacing the camera. No more channel switching issues and it flies great (for not having stabilization and crappy servos that don't center properly). I also flew it LOS and compared it to sfw2523s. They both have the same wingspan, but fly differently. The plank flies better overall because it turns better. The short swept forward wing design feels like it takes more effort to turn the other way once you start turning in one direction. I did not get this feeling when flying the longer wingspan version(sfw2523) of the swept forward wing. I still like that one the most of all my LOS planes.
