w3631

Introduction

After the failure of W3462, I decided to put in a different motor. 540mm.

Components:

  • Dollar tree foam board
  • Turnigy Plush 2-4s 10a esc with 5v2a BEC
  • DSM receiver
  • 2x 5g servos
  • Dragonfly 1306 3100kv with 4x4.5 propeller

Conclusion

After the motor swap, it came in at 97g now.

The maiden didn't do well since I put in too much motor thrust angle. After making it neutral again and some trimming of the elevons, it now flies great. I will be building more of these to test out different motors.

This motor is great for learning on and crusing around, but not great for aerobatics.

Update 3/28/20 - swapped the prop to a gemfan 3052. Still flies well, but need to fly it side by side with the 4x4.5 to tell how different they are.

Update 6/13/20 - The wing snapped in half during a 4s flight. I suppose the spar wasn't strong enough for the g forces applied with a 4s battery. The duct tape ripped along the middle as well, so the forces were a lot stronger than I had thought.

Update 6/26/20 - the components were used to rebuild w3631v3
