Week 36: EoY examinations
Week 35: Students continuing to work on both Prep 1 & 2.
Week 34: Some students starting on Prep 1 ideas, exploring different options that relate to the topic of Juxtaposition.
Week 33: Students continued doing research on Surrealist artists for Prep 2.
Week 32: Students looked at artists linked to Juxtaposition and the Surrealist movement, like Dali, Magritte and Rosenquist. They started doing their own research for their project (Prep2).
Week 31: Students are continuing research on Juxtaposition and brainstorming 'opposites' that can be used in their project. Class activity done: They had to pick two random words from a hat and combine it to create a Surreal object/character/creature, showing contrasting elements in one sketch.
Week 30: Introduction to new project - JUXTAPOSITION. Presentation and initial idea generating.
Week 29: Peer assessment and project reflection.
Week 28: Students should be completing their final outcomes for assessment.
Week 27: Students are continuing to work on their final outcome.
Week 26: Prep 4 sheets should be finalized this week in order to start with the final outcome.
Week 25: Students should continue working on Prep 4.
Week 24: Students should be busy with Prep 4 sheets this week, narrowing down their initial ideas to only two final options.
Week 23: The students should have completed Prep 3 this week and started with Prep 4. This has not realized, so the planning has been adapted, however, students need to work over weekends to catch up on on their media / composition experimentation.
Week 22: This week students continued with Prep 3, developing two main ideas further in terms of media and composition.
Week 21: Students should have started with Prep 3 this week. It requires them to narrow down their ideas, for a final outcome, to three and develop their composition and media use accordingly.
Week 20: Students must finish Prep 2 (artist research) this week in order to stick to allocated time frames.
Week 19: Students continued with their choice of artist research for Prep 2 sheets.
Week 18: Students should have completed Prep 1 sheets (sketches and annotations), and start preparing for Prep 2 next week (artist research).
Week 17: Student continue with Prep 1 sheets.
Week 16: Students made their final topic decisions and started planning and working on their Prep 1 sheets.
Week 15: New project for Term 2 introduced: Mock IGCSE exam (Component 1: Broad-based assignment). Students received a list of 10 possible topics to choose from. Presentation and research starts to make informed decision.
Week 14: Submission and assessment of artworks. Improvement on results from Term 1-1 project. Reflection session: Class discussion on WWW and EBI.
Week 13: Students completing final outcome for their Term 1-2 project.
Week 12: Students started media experimentation. Deadline approaching fast. Extra time need to be used effectively in order to finish assessment by Tuesday, 28 November 2018.
Week 11: Students completed artist research and started on Introduction page to their supporting studies.
Week 10: Students started on artist research (choice between Seurat, Da Vinci, Cezanne and Blossfeldt).
Week 9: Students created three new compositions based on their six drawings. They chose the best one, and pasted it down to be used next week. They also started with their Artist Research for this term: Students grouped themselves in class according to their preferred natural forms artist (Da Vinci, Seurat, Blossfeldt and Cezanne) and completed the necessary research for Prep 2 sheet. This will form part of their supporting studies.
Week 8: Students completed final natural forms drawings and paintings (incl direct observation from outside). Each student submitted a total of six thumbnail artworks to be copied in preparation for the composition stage.
Week 7: Students received feedback on their projects and completed a self-reflection based on the comments and their final result. The 2nd project for this term was introduced (Natural Forms) and students started creating observational drawings in various media based on fruit/plants/flowers as subject matter.
Week 6: Students completed and submitted their first project - "Realistic & Expressive Portraits" which consisted of supporting studies and two final pieces.
Week 5: Worked on Supporting Studies and final outcomes. Final pieces consist of 1 x A4 realistic portrait in a monochrome medium (pencil, charcoal or pen) and 1 x A4 expressive portrait in a colour medium (watercolour, acrylic or colour pencils). Supporting Studies and final outcomes due by Wednesday, 3 October 2018.
Week 4: Worked on the Supporting Studies for the Portrait project, focusing on background creations and Introduction page.
Week 3: Students completed research on their choice of artist and made two copies of their chosen artist's work.
Week 2: Students were taught the basic principles of facial & anatomical proportions, drawing of portraits (using their own photographs) and media properties. Demonstrations in class included drawing with a grid system and experimenting with unconventional media (e.g. watercolours & salt, material from science lab and charcoal as WET medium).
Week 1: Students received an introduction to IGCSE Art & Design 0400 syllabus, as well as a presentation on the theme for this term's visual art projects: SKILLS DEVELOPMENT (Portraiture / Natural forms / Landscapes). Homework: Take two portrait photos and bring it to class or email to Ms Dornehl to be printed out.
