Reading: Year 5 students continue reading Biographies. They referred to the books selected from the library, carry out research about the famous personalities and completed a Biography research Summary or Biographic Creative poster.
Class readers: The Railway Children: Chapter 1, character identification and characterisation. Match with evidence from text. Able to identify character, characteristics and characterization. Watch the animation on chapter 2 as a prelude.
Active Learn via Bugs club: Read about famous authors in your own time. Two authors were discussed in class. Roald Dahl and Michael Morpurgo
Writing: Recount writing- Writing a creative biography using the data collected after reading the selected biography (scan and skim for information). They completed a biographic summary of the prominent personality.

Writing: Recount writing- Writing a report with guidance/minutes of a student council meeting.
Information transfer: Reading biographies (scan and skim for information) and locating required information to complete a research data form.

Practice writing concise details on a sample postcard about a journey. Write the address of a friend from the class. Improve, write on a real postcard and get it posted. The success criteria of this activity: receiving the postcard from the classmate via mail (this activity is on hold for every student to get a postcard.)

Report Writing: Students council meeting report. A mock meeting was conducted in class. All the students participate actively by contributing ideas and giving feedback on their observation of school issues.

The students learn how to differentiate cause and effect in sentences
Students learn to plan a recount essay using Wh-(who,what, when, where,and how) questions
Students are able to write the opening lines/introductory paragraphs of a recount essay.
