In week 23, pupils were able to recognise when a sentence is in the present or past tense. They were able to use the past and present tense accurately. They were able to find words beginning with a particular letter in the dictionary and find the meaning of new words in a dictionary
In week 22, pupils were able to use knowledge of phonemes and spelling patterns to try to read words independently. They were also able to tell the general features of an explanation text.
In week 21, Year 2M pupils were able to make changes to make their story better and use their plans to write their stories.
In week 20, children have listened carefully and responded appropriately, asking questions of others. They were able to develop stories with a setting, characters and a sequence of events.
In week 19, Year 2M pupils continue learning about compound words. They were able to find the meaning of them and breakdown two words that form it. They were also able to learn adjectives and use them in writing meaningful sentences.
In week 18, Year 2M pupils were able to answer questions that start what, where, when, who, and why and say what the characters are thinking in the story. They also started to learn compound words and breakdown a compound word into two words that form it.
In week 17, Year 2M pupils were able to choose whether to use phonemes, spelling patterns, or syllables to read unknown words. They were also able to identify the characters talking, tell what the characters could say, and write sentences to explain what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
In week 16, Year 2Ms were able to describe what happens at the beginning, middle, and ending of the story. They recognized when a story is set (past, present, and future), inferring information from the text.
In week 15, year 2Ms were able to read and answer questions starting with what, why, and who. They were also able to read words with the oo phoneme, suggest different ways to spell the oo phoneme and segment and blend the phonemes to read words.
In week 14, year 2Ms were able to continue learning about writing poems. They were also able to recognise and use adjectives in sentences.
In week 13, year 2Ms were able to spot repeated lines in a poem, read the poem well, using punctuations to add expression and show through the role-play that they have understood the main ideas in the poem. They are also able to clap the syllable in a word and tell you how many syllables there are in specific words.
In week 12, Year 2M was able to read poems and comment on words and sounds, rhyme, and rhythm. They were also able to learn the different common spellings of long oa and igh phonemes.
In week 11, Year 2 was able to create adverbs by adding the suffix -ly, write words with the suffix -ly and use words with the suffix -ly in sentences. They were also able to give and follow directions. They can read and spell question words, write sentences using question words, follow a set of instructions, find answers to question text, and find the known features of instructions in a text.

In week 7, Year 2 was able to read a part of a story with fluency and expression taking note of punctuations. They were able to tell who the characters in the story are and describe the different personalities of different characters. They were able to use a capital letter and correct punctuation and begin to use more interesting vocabulary to describe a character in their writing. They continued to write sentences using and, but or because to join ideas together.
In week 6, Year 2 pupils were able to identify and describe story settings and characters by talking about the characters and setting of the story and telling whether the events in the story happened in the present or the past. They were also able to recognise adverbs and give sentences using adverbs.
In week 5, Year 2 were able to read and respond to question words. They identified who the characters in the story are and able to tell and describe the settings of the story. They also learned the different common spellings of long vowel phonemes and spelt high frequency and commonly used words. They were able to make simple inferences from the words on the page about feelings and record ideas using sentences containing a capital letter and full stop.
In week 4, Year 2 were able to talk about what happens at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of a story. They were able to identify and describe the story setting and characters. They were able to read and respond to question words, e.g. what, where, when, who, why.
In week 3, Year 2 were able to learn connecting ideas. They were able to write sentences using and, but and because. They were able to know how to read sentences with fluency and expressions. They were able to write clear sentences using capital letters, full stops, and question marks. They spelt words with long ee phoneme and practised writing ee words in cursive/ joined form.
In week 2, Year 2 learned the different common spellings of long vowel phonemes and commonly used words. They were able to write sentences too using the long ee phoneme.
In week 1, Year 2 completed baseline assessments in reading, writing, and spelling. This will allow us to track progress more effectively throughout the term.
They were excited to write about their holidays. They also completed a variety of tasks describing themselves and their likes and dislikes.
