This week students worked on answering questions based on the chapters they read and writing a dialogue using information from the chapter 'Mr Coombes'. They also selected points from the chapter 'A visit to the Doctor' for story boarding next week.

So far, we completed reading the first chapter of the book. As h/w over the holiday they have to read the second one. We completed activities on literary devices used in the book, we looked at the structure of a plot, completed some creative writing, and also covered grammar in terms of compound and complex sentences.

This week students worked on a Sweet Story of their very own. They came up with bizarre ingredients and preposterous methods to make peculiar sweets in line with Thwaites father's stories about candy making. They also read the Chapter "The Great Mouse Plot', answered questions based on it and enhanced their vocabulary.

This week we completed first 5 chapters of 'The Boy', looking at vocabulary, anecdotes and hyperbole/exaggeration. We also completed some creative writing.

In week 7, students presented their research based on the theme 'Water' on powerpoint or using pictures and notes. We also started on the book 'Boy' by Roald Dahl. Students worked on vocabulary from Chapter One and wrote a diary entry exploring Harald Dahl's thoughts and feelings when he lost his arm.

In week 7, we started our journey through the first book together! We read one chapter per lesson (as homework), and discussed an autobiographical genre.

In week 6, students continued working on their research based on the theme 'Water' and reviewed their assessments for Unit one. Students also brainstormed for words to describe a river and later wrote a descriptive piece on it.

In week 5, students worked on narratives based on the theme 'Water' and started their research on a water feature, e.g The Nile River. They will later present their research in a power point. Assessments for Unit one were also carried out this week.

This week students were working on reading material taken from past IGSCE exam papers which contained theme of water (Crossing Boundaries - Ellis Island). We looked at searching for specific information, inferring implied information and analysing ambiguity of language used to create a predetermined effect. We also continued enhancing vocabulary, and as of Friday, the students should be able to define 10 words altogether.

In week 4, students read the poem 'Blessings' by Imtiaz Dharker and analysed the importance of water. They answered questions on it and learnt vocabulary related to the scarcity of water. They also brainstormed for words to describe a waterfall and finally wrote a poem on the topic 'Waterfalls' all on their own.

This week we looked at reading; A&O included looking at different reading types, learning new vocabulary, finding a gist in a text, answering specific reading comprehension questions. The material we are using is based on the theme of water, and has been taken from past iGSCE Key Stage 3 papers.

Students discussed and talked about the importance of water. They were also introduced to different water sources such as estuaries, springs and geysers etc. Students then learnt about these ords and had a spelling test on them. They also wrote a paragraph on 'The importance of Water'
