Week 21
Students are putting the final touches researching and creating their Element Superhero/Villain poster activity.
Week 20
Students are learning about the first 20 elements their symbol and the properties of metals and non-metals from the periodic table. They will complete a guided worksheet based on the element of their choice and create a Superhero/Villian poster. Afterwards, students will complete a gallery walk to learn and gather information about the other different elements.
Week 19
Students learned about Gas Pressure, they completed a reading activity, making a gas pressure foldable and worked in cooperative groups to complete lab activities such as soda can crusher, lights out, rise and fall of the balloon to demonstrate understanding of gas pressure in solid, liquid and gas.
Week 18
This week in science, students learned about Density. They did various activities including a Density Crime Lab, density simulations, guided reading and density practice worksheet to demonstrate understanding of density.
Week 17
This week in science, students learned about the concept of diffusion. They completed choice lab activities i.e diffusion of food coloring or diffusion in liquids to demonstrate understanding of diffusion.
Week 16
This week in science, students reviewed the particle theory of solids, liquids and gases.Students made models of the particle theory. They completed several webquest activities related to states of matter, phase changes and melting and boiling points of solids, liquids and gases.
Week 15
Students are learning about the States of Matter. They begin building models out of recycled plastic water bottle caps.
Week 14
In preparation for Term 2 topic States of Matter, students went on a scavenger hunt to solve the riddle What am I?
•I live under the Grandstand in a room.
•I cover the object that holds one of the States of Matter
•I am small
•I have different colors
What am I?
Bring back as many as you can in 15 mins!! Happy hunting
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...See you in 2019
Week 13
Students are working on an APP Science skills activity creating an advert for an IVF Clinic. The advert will highlight the history of IVF, why is it useful, good and bad consequences and ethical arguments.
Week 12
Students are continuing with their Independent learning activity/ Google slide presentation. They will understand the impact drugs have on a developing fetus.
Week 11
Students are able to describe the male and female reproductive system and understand what happens during fertilization. They will complete an Independent learning activity/ Google slide presentation to recognise how conception, growth, development, behaviour, and health can be affected by drugs.
Week 10
Students learned about Muscles and Movement. They will understand why muscles are arranged in pairs and make a prediction about what will happen when a given muscle contracts. They worked in cooperative groups to investigate the question Are bicep muscles stronger than tricep muscles?
Week 9
Students are continuing working on their Organ System models.
Week 8
Students are learning about Human Body Systems. They will work in cooperative groups to do problem based learning. The problem is which body system is most important? They will choose one of the nine task to defend their argument while understanding how other body systems are interrelated.
Week 7
Students are learning about Human Body Systems. They will work groups to ask the question which body system is most important?
Week 6
This week students are learning about the nutrients in food and the role they play in maintaining a balanced diet. They completed a "What did I Eat" activity where they had to identify the nutrients, food source and explain the purpose of the nutrient on their plate. Surprising many students realize they are not maintaining a balanced diet or receiving proper nutrition.
Week 5
Students described the importance of plants on Earth. They learned how animals use cellular respiration to produce Carbon Dioxide + H20 and Energy. Students did a cooperative learning practical investigating the presence of Carbon Dioxide in our Breathe.
Week 4
Students are covering Unit 6.3 Water and Minerals in Plants.
Week 3
Students are doing some scientific investigations and plant reading activities.
Week 2
Students are learning about Plants, Stems and Flowers. They completed a Scavenger Hunt to identify the organs of plants.
Week 1
Students completed "Getting to Know You Activities". We reviewed class procedures, class materials, class resources and google classroom code.
