Aertael Temples Information

Many of the temples in Aertael are located on the same street, which runs north to south, north of the central square where the major government buildings are. Some temples exists elsewhere outside the main walls. 


East side of the street:

T01 - Odin -  The high priest of the royal temple of Odin is a female human named Hrafnar, rumored to be about level 20.  The faithful of this temple number about 20,000. The temple is constructed of huge wooden beams, with massive pillars lining a porch on the front. The structure is made up of several stories with slanted roofs, each smaller than the one under it. 

T02 - Thor - The high priest is a male human named Donar.  The faithful of this temple number about 10,000. The structure is similar to Odin's, in that it is made with wooden pillars and beams, of several stories, each smaller than the one under it, though a bit simpler and of heavier build.

T03 - Frigga - The high priest is a human female named Skapti. The faithful of this temple number about 3000. The temple is a stone structure, all of white marble; there are many carvings of valkyries, some of which are in pillar form. 

T04 - Magni - The high priest is a male human named Alfrik. The faithful of this temple number about 1500. The structure is made of grey stone, in enormously large blocks that mortal engineers could not have put in place.

T05 - Idun  - The high priest is a female elf named Alsiage.  The faithful of this temple number about 400. This temple is a wooden structure, a single story but with a tall peaked room. The beams and boards sprout leaves, with the entire structure appearing to be alive. 

T06 - Balder (decommissioned, owned by the government until early 1165, at which time it was 'sold' to a group of adventurers. Many of the player characters live here.) The temple is a large stone structure, more reminiscent of a middle ages cathedral. 

T07 - Diancecht  - The high priest is a male human named Ratha Oakeye. The faithful of this temple number about 3500. The temple is made of a ring of twenty foot tall standing stones with equally large lintels connecting them. Inside this open area is a circular central area with many rows of seats. 

T08 - Erevan Ilesere -  - The high priest is a female human named Eimhir. The faithful of this temple number about 2000. This temple is a grove of trees of varying sizes and types. Only the faithful will be able to find their way through the trees to the temple interior; unless led in by a worshipers, outsides simply wander around without ever finding anything. 

T09 - Artemis - The high priest is a female human named Sibella. The faithful of this temple number about 1300. The temple is a classic limestone structure, with huge pillars holding up a peaked roof. There are carvings of Artemis on the walls, showcasing her legendary actions. 

T10 - Nike - This temple has no high priest; it is run by a female human paladin named Lydia Wallbridge.  The faithful of this temple number about 800.  The temple is a classic limestone structure, with large pillars carved to look like women, holding up a peaked roof.  

T11 - Dionysus  - The high priest is a female human named Finched. The faithful of this temple number about 2500. The temple is a somewhat modest stone building with pillars of a green hue, that might be living plants or stone. The temple is overgrown with vines; rumor says that the faithful can get a cup of wine from these vines, if they have pleased the god. 

T12 - Ki - The high priest is a female human named Melkian. The faithful of this temple number about 1800. The temple is a glade of modest trees, with various animals prowling about. In the center of the glade is where services are held. It is always comfortably warm in the glade, and rain does not fall into the glade during services, but it all caught up by the leaves of the trees. 

T13 - Manannan Mac Lir - this temple has no high priest; it is staffed by paladins. The cadre is commanded by Sinill Mormaer, who is usually in Port city.  The faithful of this temple number about 1500. The temple is a modest building that appears to have grown from coral, with many windows. Rumor has it that there is a door to the Concordant Opposition there for the souls of the faithful to pass through after they die.

T14 - Oghma  - The high priest is a female human named Duartane. The faithful of this temple number about 1400. This temple is a large stone building, made of grey blocks. Visitors will note that the outer rooms are all libraries, and there are staff on hand to help with research. The interior of the temple is rumored to hold tomes of secrets and wisdom beyond mortals. 

T15 - Brigit -  This temple has no cleric staff, only level 0 priests who lead services. The leader of the priests is a female human named Casriel.  The faithful of this temple number about 400. The temple is a series of stone buildings; some of them are smithies. There is a flame that burns in an outer courtyard that never burns out. Rumor has it that invaders are struck down by the fire of the goddess and destroyed, body and soul. 


West side of the street

T16 - Heimdall - The high priest is a male elf named Gadrofa. The faithful of this temple number about 5000. The temple is a stone structure, grey and white, with tall shining pillars. A priest always meets visitors, whether they are expected or not. 

T17 - Tyr - The high priest is a male human named Gylfi. The faithful of this temple number about 4000. The temple is made up of several ancillary buildings and the main hall, which looks much like a fortress, and doubles as a military camp; many of its worshipers serve in the Attellarian army. The main building where services are held is made of stone, with iron doors and shutters.

T18 - Frey - The high priest is a male human named Eliudner. The faithful of this temple number about 2500. The temple has high walls around the perimeter, with watch towers at the corners and gate. A pasture, with beautiful horses grazing, can be seen from the street. 

T19 - Freya - The high priest is a female human named Folkyngi. The faithful of this temple number about 2000. The temple, which is made of brick and wooden beams, serves as a school when services are not being held, for children as young as six up to eighteen. Many of the city's scholars pass through this school, which will admit almost anyone's children. 

T20 - Sif - The high priest is a female human named Spakona. The faithful of this temple number about 1500. The temple is one large stone building inside a perimeter wall, which has watch towers at each corner and at the gates. Most of the priests and guards are women, and they teach the faithful the ways of war.

T21 - Itzamna - The high priest is a female human named Venetia. The faithful of this temple number about 3500. The temple is a high blocky pyramid, with every surface carved with divine imagery. The faithful gather on the ground, and the priest holds services from the upper level of the pyramid; amazing acoustics make every word audible.

T22 - Bast - The high priest is a female human named Amily. The faithful of this temple number about 2000. The temple is a large wooden structure, with natural areas making up about a third of the grounds. Cats from housecats to tigers roam the grounds; rumor has it that they can see all things, and the priests see through their eyes. 

T23 - Anubis - The high priest is a male human named Ahmose. The faithful of this temple number about 1800.  The temple is surrounded by a thick stone wall; the temple itself is a huge hall of many pillars, with a wooden roof. Many statues of the deity are carved into the outer and inner walls.

T24 - Ra - The high priest is a female human named Tefibi. The faithful of this temple number about 1700. The temple is surrounded by heavy stone walls, with one very tall entrance gate. The walkway from the gate to the temple is lined with lion statues. The walls are carved with images of the god and his achievements. 

T25 - Set - this building stands out from its neighbors, looking more like a tomb than a temple.  It is constructed of huge blocks of dark stone, and takes up nearly the entire block of the street on which it stands, set back from the street just a few feet.  There are no trees or gardens.  The high walls of the temple are topped by numerous statues and carved reliefs of snakes, and one enormous statue of Set himself.  There are no windows, and only one set of doors, on the main street. The faithful of this temple number about 500.  The high priest is a male human named Khefre

T26 - Silvanus - The high priest is a male human named Arias. The faithful of this temple number about 700. This temple is an oak grove, filled with paths that lead to different places. Various forest beasts, from tiny rodents to massive wolves, roam the woods. The area of worship is said to be a clearing that can only be found by the faithful.

T27 - Tuoni  - The high priest is a female human named Ingeborg. The faithful of this temple number about 1000. The temple looks like a large cemetery, with graves and places for funeral pyres scattered randomly about. There are numerous caves, one of which may lead to an area of worship, others which may lead to the lands of the dead. The temple will, for a fee, bury or burn any dead brought to them. They make no promise as to the final fate of such souls. 

T28 - Surma - The high priest is a female human named Tero Porthan. The faithful of this temple number about 400. The temple is a gathering ground for warriors, who have ritualized battles that can be only to first blood, to the death, or anything between. The temple structure is a heavy, plain, stone building with a slate roof. The priests are all said to be high level warriors. Interlopers are greeted with joy, as the priests love a challenge, and will send the souls of those who dare to invade to an afterlife of eternal suffering. 

T29 - Quetzalcoatl - This temple has no cleric staff, only level 0 priests who lead services. The leader of the priests is a male human named Gukumatz. The faithful of this temple number about 500.  The temple is a stepped pyramid, with feathered serpents carved into the steps and stone faces; the faithful sit on stone benches on ground level and listen to the pronouncements of the priests.

T30 - Mictlantecuhtli  - This temple has no cleric staff, only level 0 priests who lead services. The leader of the priests is a female human named Chicunauhmictlan. The faithful of this temple number about 400. The temple is a stepped pyramid of black stone, with one large entrance. The outside of the pyramid is carved with images of death and the undead, and much of the surface are vaults for the bodies of the faithful. Rumor has it they will arise en masse to deal with any attack. 


Outside the city walls

Bahamut  - The high priest is a female human named Katlan. The temple is located outside of the city. The faithful of this temple number about 300. The temple is a structure apparently made of shiny silvery metal, all curved and sinuous. There are several entrances, apparently to different places. The priests, especially the high level ones, have silvery skin with fine scales. Statues of the platinum dragon arise from the four corners of the roof.  This temple came into possession of a powerful relic dedicated to their deity, found by the adventurers in the wilderness in December 1168, and have added it to the temple defenses.

Clangeddin - The high priest is a male dwarf named Alaghor. The temple is located in the Dwarven enclave in the southwest lands outside the city. The temple is a tall stone building made of huge blocks, with battlements on the roof and slits for windows. Most of the worshipers are dwarves, there is a scattering of gnomes, and even a few curious humans have become worshipers.

Aegir - There is a small temple outside the walls on the river. The priests are zero level types. The high priest is a male elf named Geror. The faithful of this temple number about 1500. The temple appears to be made of stacks of shells and bones of huge sea creatures, and towers rise unevenly sometimes as high as fifty feet. The whole place smells of the sea, despite being many miles from any water except a small river. 


Living Deities with no physical temple in the city area, sometimes with few or no worshipers at all. Followers of these temples generally number a few hundred or less, and meet in informal locations on no particular schedule. While the worship of demonic or deeply evil deities is not forbidden or illegal, the government does not make it easy for them. They will find it very difficult to get a building permit to make a temple or meeting place, and the constabulary will strictly and eagerly enforce the law. Others are just so obscure or mysterious that few, if any, Attellarians find the deity attractive.

Hades - worshipers meet in the forest, with the place varying from week to week. The faithful of this temple number about 300 or less.

Shargaas - no known group of worshipers

Erevan Ilesere - worshipers meet in the forest, with the place varying from week to week. The faithful of this temple number about 300 or less. 

Loki - worshipers meet in the forest, with the place varying from week to week. The faithful of this temple number about 300 or less. 

Thrym - no known group of worshipers

Juiblex, Demogorgon, Orcus - no known group of worshipers

Ptah - no known group of worshipers

Ishtar  - no known group of worshipers
