Figures of Interest: Port used to have an alchemist, but he died in a mysterious fire around 1160. Rumor has it that he discovered the formula to Elixir of Youth and had offered some for public sale just before his death. Whether there is any connection between this event and his death is unknown.
Greog is a dwarf, and a L/E Cleric of some Dwarven Diety. He sharply curtailed his religious activies to retain his priveleges as mayor and viscount, a title he won during the orc wars during the early 1140's. He does, however, keep a couple of dozen skeletons around.
A well-known ship that takes passengers for pay (100g per day, plus 5g per passenger, which covers a bunk and meals) is the Firefly, captain Malcolm Reynolds, first officer Zoe Washburn, pilot Hoban Washburn, engineer Kaylee Frye, medic Simon Tam, his sister River Tam who has no official role aboard but is actually a supremely talented fighter, security officer Jayne Cobb, traveling madam Inara Serra, crew Book (a priest of some unnamed deity), Saffron (Mal's girlfriend), and Dobson, crewman. Mal has a strong resemblance to Jameson Rook.
General Notes: The city of Port is literally that - the largest port city in the country, with extensive docks are warehouses. The city sits on the end of a sandy peninsula, and nearly all of the city's business relates to trade and shipping. Around 1148, the city was heavily damaged when a mile-wide Cthulian creature arose from the depths of the sea and rolled into the city; it was eventually destroyed by a concerted effort of many hundreds of people. There are also a number of merchant families, some quite wealthy, including the Errasinars.
Port, easily Attellaria's richest port city, is a military target, and thus is heavily guarded. Several thousand soldiers are billeted here, and the royal navy keeps most of its ships based here. This does not prevent widespread smuggling and a variety of other crimes. There are two main crime families in Port; occaisionally their disputes erupt in violence, and thus there is a large demand for mercenaries, assassins, thieves, bodyguards and the like there.
The Attellarian navy is based here; this consists of twenty ships, 3000 sailors, and 300 marines.
In October 1156, a temple of Donblas was built and consecrated after visions of the god were seen there. Ater the deity died during the Judgement War, it was later abandoned and fell into disrepair. The land and buildings have been taken over by the city government, and it is sealed.
