Notes: Amrath is a small town on the east, notable mainly for its close proximity (about a two hour hike) to the ruins of Silver Eagle castle, which lie atop the vast and dangerous Silver Eagle Dungeons. Faen Mac Mardgh is a sort of mayor, who runs what little government presence there is in Amrath. He is not a nice person, and is best avoided.
Amrath was established about the year 1000. In 1084, when the town was recovering from the losses inflicted upon in by a plague which killed half the 1000 people, fire struck, burning half the homes and businesses and killing nearly a hundred more people. Nearly a hundred more people left the town forever afterwards. Since then, the town has regained much of its lost prosperity, as many adventurers passing through scatter their money about among the peasants and businesses. In early 1152, a retired adventurer named Blakar Dis Masdar, with the backing of the rogue master thief Lugo, opened a adventurers' supply house, comprised of several businesses including an armorer, weaponsmaker, moneychanger, and jeweler; then an alchemist was added, and later a service for buying and selling magic items. They apparently sell most of what they buy in Aertael, but have an auction each month on the first of the best items they acquire. Lugo died in middle 1153, and Blakar turned to an as yet unnamed wizard or cleric for diabolic aid in guarding his businesses. See Blakar's Businesses for more details.
The town now grows in population every year, and supports a growing governmental presence (which previously hardly existed).
The layout of the town is a carefully plotted grid. About 10% of the buildings or lots are empty. The town has a low fieldstone wall on the east and west sides. These walls are more of a place for stones to be gotten out of the way than as any barrier, except maybe a visual one to livestock on the east side. There are several small farms on the east side that grow a variety of crops, and three fields, that graze cattle, goats and pigs. There is a sort of orchard on the south side, near a pond. The town has many wells.
In late 1156, a large family of about twenty greater cyclopes opened a forge for magical weapons and armor. The leader of the group is named Gemithig.
There is a low-level druid named Ephrat, who sells some potions, some herbal remedies, and goodberries.
The Magic Shop is a place where adventurers can sell magic items, generally for about 90% of book value. There is also an auction of a small number of high quality items there each month on the first day of the month.
