The Tower of Kimaris existed before the city was built, and stood empty almost all of the time due to its very odd construction – no doors except on the roof, no windows at all, and an inside that seemed to defy mapping, with rooms and stairs that seemed to shift about, doors that close, open or disappear, and magical effects that prevent flight and teleportation. The most popular theory is that it is a wizard’s tower from a long-ago age. Explorers often were lost for days inside, and some never returned at all. The stone walls and floors of the tower seem nearly indestructible, and what little damage was done repaired itself over a few days.
When the planar barriers were shattered a few years ago, a group of demons appeared in the tower, and began abducting locals, who were never seen again. The local government sent in a force of warriors, mages and priests, which was soundly defeated, most did not return. (Estimated average level of 8-10, with two or three of level twelve or thirteen.) They reported the tower was crawling with demons, mostly type II, with a number of IV, V, and one type V demon, after whom the tower is named. One of the survivors carried word back to the government – bring one human sacrifice per week, and the city would be left alone. After much debate, this was accepted.
The governor of Belveras has a standing reward of 500,000 gold pieces to any person or group that wipes out the demons of the tower. This is not all in gold, as much of it is actually to be paid in magic items. No details of these items will be provided before the tower is cleared out. Presentation of the corpse of Kimaris is considered proof of the deed.
The tower is about eight hundred feet high, about two hundred feet thick at the base. It is surrounded by a zone that prevents flight (even winged!) for about a hundred feet in every direction, though this is reputed to vary and change.
