The Gem Saloon is a tavern, house of prostitution, inn and gambling hall located in the southeast part of town. A very rough place, it's not unusual for a corpse to be found in the alley next door any given morning.
The Gem is owned and operated by Al Swearingen, a large man, rough in appearance and manner. He is a cold-blooded killer, caring only about his business and his employees, and the employees come in a distant second.
His right-hand man is a tough named Dan Dority, a massive thug with almost superhuman talents in unarmed combat. He runs and sometimes participates in a so-called 'wrestling' ring, in which people fight for bets; it's not unusual for participants to be maimed or killed. It's rumored that the fighting ring is inside some sort of zone which blocks both magic and psionics; Dority also has a mutt dog which reputedly can smell magic, and will sniff and growl at anyone who radiates such.
The tavern occupies most of the ground floor, except for the back room, which is the fighting ring. The upstairs is Swearingen's office and the rooms of the prostitutes, which are mostly but not entirely human women. Rumor has it that any sort of partner or act desired can be had, for a price.
